Also known as Goji berry, wolfberry has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2000 years. 
There are many health claims regarding the benefit of consuming wolfberry.
The FDA has cracked down on some  product manufacturers for making unsubstantiated claims. 
Claimed health benefits of wolfberry include improved immune function, diabetes, cardiovascular, sexual, cognitive, and vision health. 
For most of these, human research is lacking. However, a recent one year study looked at the effect of wolfberry on visual health.

Wolfberry delayed the thinning of the macular layer in the eye. This is the inside and back layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends these to the brain. 
Wolfberry contains different potentially bioactive compounds, one of which is zeaxanthin. 
The American Optometric Association identifies zeaxanthin as an antioxidant that reduces the risk of chronic eye diseases, including age related macular degeneration and cataracts.  
Wolfberry/ Goji berry is among the highest sources of zeaxanthin.
